Brief Introduction
The School of Humanities and Law

Northeastern University the School of Humanities and Law began recruitingstudents in September 1923. In January 1929, the Ministry of Education of theformer National Government issued a general order for the implementation ofcollege system in universities, accordingly, the Division of Humanities waschanged into the Humanities College, and the Division of Law became the LawCollege. In 1993, after the restoration of Northeastern University to thepresent name, the School of Humanities and Law was reestablished in December.

Northeastern University became one of the first universities amonguniversities of science and engineering nationwide to obtain the right to grantdoctorate degree in liberal arts. It is also one of the first 24 universitieswhich have the right to confer a master's degree in Master of PublicAdministration (MPA). Presently, the School of Humanities and Law has oneprovince-level key disciplines (Public Administration).NEU Research Instituteof Urban and Rural Community attached to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Scienceand Technology Policy Research Strategy Training Base attached to the Ministryof Education, and the National Science and Technology Policy Research Center inthe Northeastern China attached to the Ministry of Science and Technology arelocated in our school.

The School of Humanities and Law has 1 postdoctoral research station, 1doctoral program of primary discipline, 1 doctoral program of secondarydiscipline, 3 master's degree programs of primary discipline, 1 master's degreeprogram of secondary discipline, 2 professional master's degree program and 4bachelor's degree programs. Among them, the postdoctoral research station isPublic Administration. The doctoral program of primary discipline is PublicAdministration (including five secondary disciplines: Public Administration,Educational Economy and Management, Land Resources Management, Social Medicineand Health Management, Social Security) The doctoral program of secondarydiscipline is Technology Management and Technology Policy. 3 master's degreeprograms of primary discipline (including 20 secondary disciplines) are: PublicAdministration, Political Science and Law. The master's degree program ofsecondary discipline is Technology Management and Technology Policy. The twoprofessional master's degree program are Master of Public Administration (MPA)and Juris Master (JM). 4 bachelor's degree programs include AdministrativeManagement, Public Affairs Administration, the Science of Law and Journalism.

The academic organizations of the School of Humanities and Law include 5research centers (the National Science and Technology Policy Research Center inNortheast, MPA Education Center of Northeastern University, Politics &Public Administration Research Center,  NPO and Social Policy ResearchCentre, Urban & Rural Community Research Center of NortheasternUniversity); 4 research institutes ( Educational Economy and ManagementResearch Institute, Land Management Research Institute, Social SecurityResearch Institute, Politics Research Institute) and 4 departments (Departmentof Administrative Management, Department of Law, Department of Public Affairs,Department of Journalism).

Presently, the School of Humanities and Law has teaching andadministrative staff of 75 people, including 59 full-time teachers, 16 officeworkers, 1 non-teaching technical professional. There are 16 professors, 21associate professors and 13 doctoral supervisors. Among the teaching staffthere is one committee member of Discipline Review Board of the State Council;one teacher was entitled 'state-level star teacher'; one was entitled'province-level star teacher'. There is also one committee member ofnational MPA Education Steering Committee, one chairman, and two members ofPublic Administration Education Steering Committee in Higher Education of theMinistry of Education, one member of National Advisory Board of Urban and RuralCommunity Construction of Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, one member ofExpert Advisory Board of CCP Committee and Government of Liaoning Province, andone member of Department of Law of Liaoning Province Social Sciences Committee.

The School of Humanities and Law has made remarkable achievements incurriculum development and teaching material construction, among which thecourses 'the life wisdom of Lao Zi' and 'communitymanagement' were valued as the 'national quality open videoclass', 'Research on Public Administration Curriculum SystemConstruction' and 'Research on Public Administration CurriculumTeaching-Material Construction' respectively won the first and the secondprize of National Teaching Achievements Assessment; 'AdministrativeScience' and 'Community Management' were named 'State-levelExcellent Course'. The textbooks 'Community Management', and'Educational Economy and Management' were named the 'NationalQuality Textbooks'. Over the past decade, the teachers of the School ofHumanities and Law have undertaken nearly one thousand research projects,including those sponsored by the National Natural Science Funds, and theNational Social Science Funds, as well as key projects in philosophy and socialscience research of the Ministry of Education, and other types of researchprojects, which contributed a lot to the society, and in return achieved greatsocial impact.
